Somewhere in time's own space
There must be some sweet pastured place
Where creeks sing on and tall trees grow
Some paradise where horses go...

I worked the ranch the summer of 1998 and I will have to say, it was the best summer of my life.  How I wish I'd discovered it when I was a young girl fresh out of school..I'd of spent many many summers at Elkhorn..Meeting all the people from all walks of life was an amazing experience. Linda and Jim..what can you say about them, except that they are wonderful people..I feel blessed to know them..I just pray one day I can take my husband and son so they to can see my slice of heaven on earth..and experience all Elkhorn has to offer...

Memories!

I was a Peanut Butter Mother way back in the summer of 1997, just after my first year of college. The days were long but filled with fun. I fell in love with the mountains and surrounding area and moved to Bozeman the following year, to get a degree in Fish and Wildlife Mgmt. Looking back, it is most likely one of my favorite jobs. What more could you ask for, riding horseback everyday, playing games with kids, and being in the Montana mountains? We got to enjoy an unusual summer of light rain at night but gorgeous days of sunshine. Everything stayed green through September. I never slept better then hearing the raining hit the roof of me little "Lean Too" and the crackling of the fire in my stove. Seattle is a very different place but have fond memories of my time there. Thank you Linda for taking me on to your crew that year.

Best vacation ever

Elkhorn Ranch was the best vacation ever. It was relaxing yet fun. The mountains were amazing. It was my 3rd time going and I will keep going until I die. You will never ever get sick of it.

Thank You!

Having grown up in the mountains which spawn Taylor Fork, just a half mile down the road from Elkhorn, I never felt any need to base myself anywhere else in Montana.  How grateful I feel to have lived the Elkhorn experience!  It goes without saying that the all-day rides, which take you on extraordinary journeys, both by way of scenery and company, could begin to satisfy the summer journal of adventures.  For our family, however, they were the combined details of the week which were all accounted to have left all of us feeling refreshed, revived, and longing for more.  Imagine: each day begins with the quiet steps of one of the wranglers lighting a fire in your cabin before anyone is stirring - who could ever think that boots could shuffle like slippers?  Then, we always perched ourselves atop the hill to watch the morning wrangle, with 120+ horses thundering by, sipping a "to go" cup of tea.  Our Peanut Butter boys were nowhere to be found for much of the day, other than the infectious laughs we might catch when their roving troupe was nearby.  To hear them now recount their memories reveals just how much they grew in their perspectives, appreciations and of themselves - a priceless set of experiences for any parent to witness.  Even our Pre-Nut daughter participated in the meals with the big kids and adopted her own favorite horse whom she rode as often as possible.  Nighttime porch-banter intermingled with a few mule deer puts a brilliant topper on the story.  We thank each and every one of the wonderful Elkhorn crew who knew our names and how our days would best begin and end.  We are looking forward to many more years with our Elkhorn neighbors!  Our very best from the whole Simonds Family: Annie, Will, Wiley, Harry and Katherine

Still dreaming about it!

I spend a week in September 07, and I'm saving my money to go back again. I really miss the Magic of that area (and the staff). Hope I can make it in 2010.

I first came to the ranch as a 14 year old with my family from back East.  We stayed three glorious weeks and all agreed it was the best vacation we'd ever had.  There were a few lucky families who came back to Elkhorn every summer, and how I envied them.  I thought to myself, "When I'm a grown-up, that's what I want to do!"  Well, my dream came true, and now three generations of our family convene at the ranch every summer, to fish the rivers, ride in the high mountain meadows, and watch the clouds from the front porch.  Elkhorn is the real thing.  Within a day of soaking in the fresh air, the awesome scenery, and the warm hospitality of the ranch, you are a million miles away from whatever it is that stresses you out at home!

Home away from home

I grew up overseas far away from the Ranch and the world of the West.  As a child, my parents always took us to the beach on vacation, so I wasn't sure Elkhorn would be right for me.  As soon as you get there though, Linda and the rest of the crew make you feel right at home.  They make sure to put you on a horse you can handle, no matter how much experience you have, and you get to see parts of the mountains you could never get to in a car.  The best part is that there are no distractions like TV or cell phone coverage to interfere with a true vacation.  After five visits, I will always think of Elkhorn as my summer home.  Thanks, Linda!

Out here on the Left Coast spring has sprung, and thoughts turn to that slice of heaven at the foot of the canyon and our ranch family.  This will be our 13th year back (14 for those of us who remember all the way back to '69), and each is as memorable as the first.  There's nothing like the total escape from your day-to-day on the back of a horse; the most gorgeous county the mind can conjure up; views more sweeping than the eyes can see; long lopes - many, many long lopes; maybe a dip in Sage Lake midday for the adventurous (or those of us who just don't know any better); and sharing tales at day's end with friends old an new.  If there's anything better it's probably illegal.  Anyways, can't wait to see you all in20August.  With love -  The California Cammanns
