Elkhorn Activities

   When you are not riding, the Elkhorn is a wonderful place for quiet walks or hiking. Whitewater rafting is available at Big Sky, just a few minutes down the road. Arrangements are easily made for a car, complete with picnic and travel tips, into Yellowstone Park or Grand Teton Park farther south.
   Because the ranch is located in the midst of some of the world's finest blue ribbon streams, fishing is a popular option.

   You can choose rivers such as the nearby Yellowstone or Madison, Fishing on the Yellowstone

the Gallatin, which runs along the ranch boundary, or any number of creeks, including those in our corner of Yellowstone National Park. Fishing and trail riding can be combined by riding to fishing destinations with Yellowstone Park. Evening activities are family events and can include cookouts, square dancing, bonfires and sing-alongs.

Elkhorn Ranch - Week Overview

Everyday
Fire lit in your wood stove between 6:00 a.m. - 7:00 a.m.
Meals are served at the central dining room following the second bell; Breakfast at 8:30 a.m., lunch at 1:00 p.m., and dinner at 7:00 p.m., except when noted otherwise.

Sunday
Travel day - arrivals and departures, exploring the area including Yellowstone Park or Teton Park, etc. Sunday "Get Together" in the rec-hall from 6:15 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Cookout at 6:30 p.m.

Monday

Half day family rides (morning and afternoon) Lunch and dinner at the ranch Bonfire; sing along and marshmallow roast after dinner

All day rides including one all day fishing trip ride Lunch on the trail Dinner at the ranch

Wednesday
Continental breakfast from 7:15 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. in dining room Breakfast rides leave the barn at 8:30 a.m. (breakfast is served on the trail about 10:30 a.m.) Afternoon open - white water rafting can be arranged through the office. No lunch served; picnics are upon request; dinner at the ranch.

Thursday
All day rides, lunch and dinner on the trail.

Friday
Half day rides (mornings and afternoons). Lunch and dinner at the ranch.

SATURDAY
All day rides including one all day fishing trip ride. Lunch on the trail. Dinner at the ranch. Saturday night Square Dance in the rec-hall.
